Assemblage I
Project type
Layered mixed media assemblages exploring text, image and material
Date
2022
Location
Warwickshire, United Kingdom
Assemblage I began during a period of physical and mental transition when many of the structures I had previously relied on no longer made sense. The work did not start with a clear intention or outcome. Instead it emerged slowly through play, experimentation and the need to keep making in whatever way felt possible.
Drawing, paint, fragments of text, found objects, clay and materials gathered through walking became part of a process of working things out through the act of making. Some pieces were made digitally, others on paper, often layered and reworked over time. None of them were conceived as finished works. Rather they form a series of fragments that record moments of thought, uncertainty and reflection.
These works mark the beginning of a shift in my practice away from primarily digital processes toward a more tactile and materially driven way of working. Through assemblage, fragments of language, image and texture begin to sit alongside one another, allowing questions around identity, health, place and lived experience to surface in quieter, more reflective ways.
Assemblage I is therefore less a completed body of work than the start of an ongoing process of reassembling practice.
